One of the greatest campus attractions for the outdoor-minded is Milo Academy Stables. Milo's horses are trained for riders at skill levels from beginner and up. Students may ride Milo's own horses as well as the Big Lake horses that are boarded at the school. Boarding facilities are available for privately owned horses. To keep a horse at Milo, students need to make reservations with Mr. Barrera. See the Milo Horse Program brochure for more detail about the facilities and boarding services available for student-owned horses. Riding lessons are available for the more serious riders at Hestehaven, a local ranch, which offers the use of their indoor riding arena during the rainy winter season.
Milo's trail rides through field and forest are unsurpassed. Students who would like to ride may contact horse program sponsors or workers, who are experienced riders, when they want to ride. These trained student workers ensure the safety of the student riders as well as the horse. They make sure that horse and rider are matched according to skill level, and they make sure that the proper equipment is used on the horse. The current list of student workers can be found in each dorm or by contacting Mr. Barrera. Milo Academy has many miles of riding trails going through the woods, mountains, and fields surrounding the campus. Trail rides are a popular activity, and many families or groups of friends spend their weekends in the saddle exploring woodland trails. The woods are filled with waterfalls, hidden meadows, and lofty mountain views, making horseback riding a favorite Sabbath activity for many.
Horse Club members enjoy riding on the beach during their beach campout.
