School closure is not currently recommended as a strategy for reducing the spread of the flu. However, local conditions may occur that lead us to consider dismissing school. Oregon Public Health Division and Oregon Department of Education recommend that we take the following steps:
- 1. Consult with the Douglas County Health Department when school dismissal is being considered.
- 2. Determine the threshold of when we do not have the ability to appropriately supervise students.
- 3. When it is decided to dismiss school in relation to Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1), notify the Douglas County Health Department and file an electronic report as soon as possible.
In addition to the above steps, we will consult with Oregon Conference of SDA administration at each step.
