Junior Recognition Weekend
- The junior class and their sponsors thank all who attended and participated in Junior Recognition Weekend! Thank you for bringing food and for helping and encouraging the juniors! Thanks to to Mr. and Mrs. Margart for help with food sales and calls to junior parents; to the Wilkinsons who baked tons of food to sell bread, cinnamon rolls, etc.; to Tim Pudewell who organized the group from Roseburg to play basketball.
Horses, Farm, Dorms, and Office
- Lynda Haley finds volunteer opportunities all over campus. She assists in the boys' dorm where she lives. She is a horse club sponsor and makes sure that the horses are cared for and that the horse program runs smoothly. This year she immediately answered the need to prepare packets for and help with registration day. South Umpqua Farms is another recipient of her volunteer time and energy. Thank you, Lynda, for being a volunteer "anywhere and everywhere." Lynda is a good person to check with if you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer!
Maintenance and Farm
- John Kelley came several times during the summer to help out with the hay harvest and with maintenance projects in his areas of expertise. Thank you, John and Darlene!
Camp Umpqua
- Hearsay has it that there have been a number of people involved in the development of Camp Umpqua. More details later! Contact if you would like to contribute your skills or time to this project!
Transportation
- Maureen Pearson, Marge Wheeler, Lynda Haley, and Carol and Eugene Miller are available to take students to the doctor, pick them up from the airport, or take them for a town run. The people who volunteer transportation are ready at a moment's notice to go where they're asked to go. They have saved Milo staff countless hours by volunteering to make trips to town when needed. Milo staff appreciate you, Maureen, Marge, Lynda, Carol and Eugene! Thanks also to staff who are willing to piggyback errands in town for each other!
Technical Support
- Many thanks go to Dan Russell for sharing his expertise and time and creativity to keeping Milo up to date in the tech world. His contributions to the church sound system have been deeply appreciated by all. His help and encouragement to get projectors and screens in the classrooms has enabled teachers to do their jobs more effectively. Thank you, Dan!
Housing for Students
- Thanks to Maureen and Richard Pearson, Marge Wheeler, and Carol and Eugene Miller for opening your homes to students who need a temporary place to stay.
Saturday Night Activities
- Kim Miller coodinates Saturday Night Activities. She's been planning fun activities for Milo students and staff since 1999. Thank you Kim!
Marketing and More
- Carol Bovee shares her talents for marketing ideas, gifts, photography and computer graphics whenever needs arise throughout the year. Thank you, Carol!
Organization
- Carol Sumerlin organized important school records and continues to help with any need that arises in the curriculum and planning departments of Milo. She spent time this summer working on special projects for and consulting with administration. Thank you, Carol, for the many hours of volunteer time during which you have contributed your experience and TLC for the Milo program.
Milo Academy Board
- The following Milo Academy board members have given freely of their time and expertise to make Milo the best that it can be. Some have traveled far to come to meetings. Their input is highly valued by the administration and staff. Thank you to Lee Bissell, Randy Bovee, Dale Bryson, Coreen Cline, Jon Corder, John Gatchet, Bill Fisher, Lanny Hurlbert, Dale Milam, Hilde Barrera, Nick Leidig, Don Livesay, Pastor David McCoy, Al Reimche, Dan Russell, Carol Sumerlin, Ted Uren, and Ed Wagner for your ongoing contribution to Milo - especially during the past year!
Library
- Several volunteers appeared to help with the reorganization of the library and other offices. Thanks go to Deborah Barrera, Carol Bovee, and Pamela Potter. Contact if you would like to volunteer in the Milo Academy library.
Mailings
- Several people have come to help Mrs. Starr prepare large mailings. Many hands make light work, and these hands are truly appreciated.
Supervision
- Thank you, Marge Wheeler, for supervising the cafeteria during the lunchtime staff meeting! Your supervision makes it possible for all of the staff to attend the meeting.
Sports Program
- Anyone who follows Milo sports has seen Mrs. Lambie in action! She does many behind the scenes jobs to help keep things running smoothly. Thank you, Laura!
- A word of appreciation also goes to Dave Romero for making it possible for the Milo Football tournament to be held on the Riddle High School field on Saturday night, September 19, 2009. Everyone had a great time!
- Thanks to football player parents Amy Deming and the Marshalls who accompanied the Milams and the team to Monterey Bay Academy for a football tournament. Good help made the trip more enjoyable for everyone.
Computer Help
- Cindy Melashenko stepped in to help Matt Melashenko distribute and set up computers in offices and labs on campus. Thank you, Cindy.
Web Site Development
- Many thanks go to web developer and alumnus Joseph Hermens for his assistance with this web site. Without him we would not have the menu system and many other features that make this site easy to use and maintain. Thank you Joseph!
Photography
- Thanks go to Carol Bovee, Richard Pearson, Nancy Starr, Wendy Foster, Dale Milam, and students Philip Duclos, Andy Russell and the yearbook staff for being there with their cameras and contributing their photos for use in Milo publications and website!
Proofreading
- Proofreaders play a big part in all of Milo's print and web publications. Cheryl Andrieux reads yearbook pages just before they go to print each year. Kim Miller has supplied details and checked for grammar and consistency in the Milo calendar each year. Randy Bovee and Nancy Starr have found many hard-to-find errors in Milo publications and on the web site. Becky Rae and Amy Deming often respond to proofreading and writing needs. Thank you Cheryl Andrieux, Randy Bovee, Kim Miller, Nancy Starr, Amy Deming, and Becky Rae.
Teach a class
- Yes, Pastor Jeff Deming is our pastor and school chaplain. Yes, he volunteers to teach Bible! Thank you, Pastor Jeff! Thanks also to Darla Milam for volunteering to teach Folk Art this year! Mr. Forster volunteers to teach art students to use the pottery wheel. Thank you, Mr. Forster!
Do Electrical Work
- A huge thank you goes to Mr. Ken Christy, a licensed elctrician, who has done projects all over campus that require an electrician! Recently, he installed all of the new exit lights in the ADM.
